When and Where the Rodeo is Held
This rodeo is meeting in Las Vegas again this year from December 3 through December 12. It will be held at the Thomas & Mack Center. CBS Sports Network will televise the event to millions of American households.
What Events Will Be Present?
There are many events this year at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. These events include the bareback riding which is riding a horse without a saddle. Steer wrestling is also included in which a horseback rider chases a steer to wrestle it to the ground by its horns. Team roping is also showcased at this rodeo. Team roping involves two horseback riders roping a steer together.
There are four more events as well. The first is saddle bronc riding in which the contestant rides a bucking horse. Tie-down roping is next in which a calf is roped by a horseback rider. WPRA barrel racing is an ever-popular event in which women compete to race around barrels via horseback riding. The final event is the most popular bull riding in which contestants attempt to ride a bucking bull.
How are Contestants Selected?
The top fifteen contestants in each event are qualified based on how much money they earned during the regular season. These earnings do include competitions such as the Wrangler Champions Challenge Events by Justin Boots, the Justin Boots Playoffs, 12 RAM Circuit File Rodeos, and PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour for bull riders. All of these earnings are combined to determine the top fifteen in each category.
How is the Winner of the Event Determined?
The winner of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo will be called the world champion or rodeo. There are champions in each of the events. The winner in each event will be who has earned the most money combined. This combination includes earnings from the regular season as aforementioned and earnings from the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
How is the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Scored?
This event has a total of ten rounds in each category. Every contestant will compete once a day. Each round is a separate day, adding up to ten days in all. Participants will receive earnings by placing first through sixth in rounds. They will receive more money if they placed first through eighth when averaging all ten rounds together.
At the end of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, there will be two winners in every event. Team roping will have four winners. There will also be a winner based on the average of all points from all ten rounds of the event. Other winners include the winner of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo by who had the most points overall and the world champion who finished the entire season with the most earnings. Participants are allowed to win as both the average winner and the champion of each event.
